If you like, call it fitting justice coming the way of a man who held everyone hostage ,including the revered organs of government like the Judiciary. His name is Gen. Pervez Musharraf, though some preferred to call him ‘Perverse’ for the way his reign as the avatar in Pakistan did a few abominable things, including holding Judges hostage. Perhaps,
it was William Shakespeare that aptly captured Musharraf’s current travails in his time-tested words: “the evil that men do, live after them.”
Among other charges, Musharraf is facing charges of not doing enough to prevent the gruesome murder of Ms Benazir Bhutto, the country’s former Prime Minister.
Using his position as Chief of Army staff, he was able to get himself the presidency in 1999 through a coup d’etat. The major low point of his boisterous hold on Pakistan was the frosty relationship with the Nation’s judges led by the
irrepressible Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Chaudhry, in a rare show of unmistakable courage, had, in 2007, ruled against Musharraf’s state of emergency proclamation.
