    Blue Curtains Brisbane

    Often when producers and publicists initially reach out about the possibility of a show review, it is with ask if there might be possibility for one of my reviewers to attend. This is when I have to explain that Blue Curtains is, and always has been, just me. Those who know me personally probably assume this is a consequence of my Type A personality need for control and while that might be true to some extent, even more important has always been the want to have there be a consistency of voice to the Blue Curtains brand. This means that over the last 12 years of seeing companies come and go, and also thrive and grow, there are many invites I have to decline, not just a peak theatre times or when I have day-job Head of School commitments, but when I’m travelling overseas or sick, as happened this year thanks to a two-month recovery from a nasty case of Covid caught in delayed and rerouted return from Greece. Even so, as a reviewer who has uniquely (I think) never otherwise worked in the arts (hence the ‘Stories from the stalls’ part of the Blue Curtains moniker), I have always tried to get along to as many shows as possible, professional and amateur, to both expand my repertoire and hopefully help spread the word of the array of works and talen
